Budget Hosting – Getting Started
This is a brief summary of how to find a lot of budget, followed by a more detailed discussion for those interested.
This guide is for those who:
- Need for a modest plan to host a site for a nonprofit company / small / staff / etc
- Create a budget for the housing of about $ 8 per month or less – perhaps less.
- Do you want a permanent plan to stay free (distributor plans to add several of these sites).
- Find a free web space plan or ISP does not meet their needs.
- Do not expect many extras or subtlety.
The short version:
Proper management, trusted host can be easier to propose plans for those with limited needs and budget. Some can earn money doing it. Others find a way to attract new customers whose needs grow over time.
Advice is good to avoid deals that are too good to be true – which is often not what it promised, and neither will the rest of the hordes of bargain hunters to overwhelm the servers hosting their sites. But this is not what we are talking here. You can get a good host on a budget.
- First, try to get an idea of the features, space and bandwidth they need. If you can come up with even a rough idea will help.
- Secondly, to identify some good candidates for accommodation. There are enough listed in this section to save time searching for some candidates.
- Third, look for reviews of potential hosts with real users. As in a restaurant, as host has a lot to do with how it is managed. New artist may or may not be good hosts and set off if management can not always be aware of things. The service is not always perfect, but what separates the good host is hard to know how often there are problems, and how the host handles things when something goes wrong.
- WebHostingTalk search. com. Do a search of Web Hosting Forum WebHostingTalk. com, by searching the host name. Do not try to "All open forums" – also will get many results that are not relevant. You can try a pair to accommodate variations in different ways to spell – with or without spaces between words in the name, for example.
- Use FindMyHosting. com to find hosts and guests reviews. The advanced search page allows you to specify a lot of options, but sometimes it is better not to restrict unnecessarily. Simply enter your budget and location, and use of the list "as the highest score of the customer" in the lower right corner. Also, see below for further discussion FindMyHosting. com
- Google the name of the host, and variations thereof, to see what appeared.
Neither of these approaches is good information on each household, or have any information about the host – unfortunately this site does not seem to exist. Many guests listed below are not listed FindMyHosting. com. However, these resources will help you narrow down the list of best current prospects for housing.
Part of the budget of the hosts of the United States that seem promising so far, based on the search Janvier 2005, roughly in order of price:
E-rice. Net – starts at $ 10 per year, the features should be pretty good for simple sites. No backups, though, so keep that in mind if you have content changes.
Doorhost. Net – Plans $ 20/yr.
HostPC – Budget Package starts at $ 25/year.
Otalchoice T – The budget plan to $ 4 per month.
Site5
Lunarpages
DreamHost
Efextra. Net – Budget Windows Hosting from $ 4. 95/month.

As you have discovered, most web hosting directories on the web are advertising Driven – no real comment here. Here are some places to find information:
- FindMyHosting. com Homepage Advanced Search
- Web Reviews – accommodation not specifically focused on affordable housing, but a series of useful articles and a list of hosts. The Related Sites page has a number of useful links and websites.
- Sometimes you can get a good deal on a good host or a domain registration or tWallet F AnandTech Hot Deals Forum – looking for host, hosting, domain name, and so on.
If you find a site especially useful when choosing a host, you can try to register through their links to receive the reference credit.
DISCUSSION
Narrow your search:
1. Forum users. A discussion forum host characteristics and any problem can be very useful. You can often find answers to questions that are not in the support pages of the machine, without contact for assistance. It also gives you a feel for the kind of people do.
2. A WHOIS search on the domain host may give an idea of whether they are reliable and established.
3. Money back guarantee. Many people are recommended to choose a machine with a money back guarantee. Maybe. I advise you to choose a house where the guarantee is not needed, we can! Often the game, not worth it, if in turn the needy.
4. Features. It's a little hard to say exactly the features you need for your site, but:
- You can make a small site of Nice: Linux hosting, PHP, MySQL databases (multiple tables or databases), control of htaccess, multiple mailboxes, the transfer of email and webmail.
- That you can run a lot, but if you are new to greet some may want to pre-installed or self installed scripts, too.
- Panel. A poorly designed control panel (like 1and1), can be slow and difficult to manage a site.
- Subdomains (Help. mydomain. Net, in stores. MyDomain. Net) can be nice to have.
- Several golf. If you need to host more than one domain (mydomain name. Myotherdomain Net Org), remember to check if the plan allows.
You may not (and can not get at the real economic) SSH, root access, or detail of the DNS server configuration – but if you know what it is, you can decide for yourself!
5. Service and Support. Seeking a reasonable period of implementation (depending on the problem) and the basic courtesy (again). And personally, I would prefer to be told about changes adaance and downtime, worrying about how to respond quickly when my site is down or a new "feature" that makes something installed stop working. Think about what is fair to expect that the price of the package you are looking for. In any case, do not ask a lot of subtleties – use the forums for that.
6. Does it feel good? This might not work for everyone, but many people a sense of whether a business is seeking to do business. Sometimes it's a good feeling, sometimes it's a bad feeling. Do not sign with someone who does not seem capable and simple. Contrary to what some people may think, accommodation is not a commodity business. Competition is intense, but the quality of management that some firms make a better choice than others.
Domain Names
Like others, I still have my domain registered somewhere other than my host, even if it costs more. This allows me to quickly change the machine if there is a problem with the server for an unacceptably long time. Change the host can often be done in a matter of hours if required – see Breakfast with almost no change in the thread WebHostingTalk downtime. com.
The forum domain name search of the discussions or comments about domain registrars. Since January 2005, people seem to recommend GoDaddy domainsite maybe NameCheap economic and reasonably reliable records.
Basics
For those new to hosting:
- You get a shared hosting plan in this budget. Your site is one of many in the physical server that is hosted.
- You have a more or less and features (like the plan you choose), but something less than total control.
- Your site can be affected by the use of sites on the server.
None of this can be an acute or long-term problem, if you choose a good host.
You may be able to host a couple of small sites on a hosting plan, if it bothers you manage through a control panel settings, and your plan allows multiple domains.
If you have multiple sites, intends to monitor, you may be better to obtain a reseller plan to accommodate everyone.
FindMyHosting. com
Note that FindMyHosting. com has a list of all armies. In fact, it lists only the hosts who are currently paying a reference rate for new customers to find a host with FindMyHosting. com
Some people have a reflex that is intrinsically evil. And it has some drawbacks:
- Some good hosts do not pay fees of reference, or just prefer to get customers by word of mouth. They will not be in FindMyHosting. ads.
- Hosts of receiving information terrible in May to terminate their agreement. All the useful information disappears.
But getting a charge if a customer finds a host with the site is not entirely inconsistent with the sense of being honest reviews of the house, so they are promoting a series over the other and not looking to make them look any good. Clearly there are some frank criticism FindMyHosting. com. And FindMyHosting. com has bills to pay, too – depending on the amount of taxes is not reasonable to be paid.
As always, you need to read the critical comments. But FindMyHosting. com is a good complement to the anecdotal evidence often unavoidable, to find positions of inflection of a forum here and there around a host.
A note on testing accommodations
All comments and opinions of the customers – both positive and negative – must be analyzed critically. And while reflection can not be certain of the truth – that does not mean they are not valuable. Also, if one interprets the law, which seem to be a useful way to judge the frequency of problems and how to manage the host. In so far as it can, it is useful to assess whether someone understands the accommodation was reasonable expectations, and adopted a reasonable approach to solving the problem. If so, can identify with the cause "emotional" if the host can not resolve the problem within a reasonable time. In other words, perhaps people are motivated to write reviews when they had a problem – but most people are not going to post the first time you have a small problem, either. Usually, a big problem they have had real difficulties are resolved.
In addition, there are certainly some positive comments unreliable, too – people who have not been a group long enough to tell, and people are not completely independent of the host. So do not think all the good reviews, either!
Why this article?
Part of this may seem obvious to more experienced players. Of course, many people throw a recommendation to search the forums – but research on what? And for how long? Similarly, only mentioning FindMyHosting. com does not really help much. In this article I have saved many hours, when I started looking.
And for those who can not stop saying: "Money is not welcome at all" – not decent for these needs and budget. Paying more does not necessarily mean you have a host that does a better job for these needs.
